Wade who won the women's title in 1977 believes Konta can end a 40-year wait

Five-time victor Venus Williams ended Johanna Konta's hopes of becoming the first British woman to reach the Wimbledon final for 40 years.

Muguruza, who is seeded 14th, will meet the unseeded Magdalena Rybarikova of Slovakia, who beat American Coco Vandeweghe 6-3 6-3 in a rain-delayed contest to reach the semi-finals of a grand slam for the first time.

Yet even as she will be given the respect she deserves on Centre Court, she is unlikely to receive the kind of support accorded to Konta, who is hoping to become the first British woman to win the trophy since Virginia Wade did in 1977.

The straight-set win allowed Williams to become only the second 37-year-old in the Open Era (since 1968) to reach a major final, joining Martina Navratilova (1994 Wimbledon).

If she wins Wimbledon it will be the first grass-court title of her career, coming just two weeks after she feared her participation in the tournament might be ruined by a back injury suffered in the Eastbourne warm-up event.

On the men's side, Novak Djokovic advanced to the quarterfinals by beating Adrian Mannarino 6-2, 7-6 (5), 6-4.

1 dead, 8 injured at gender reveal party in Ohio
The pregnant woman told multiple media outlets she lost her baby after being shot in the leg. "This will be one of those nights". Some of the victims are children, a Colerain Township police spokesman told WLWT News 5. "I do not know how this got started".

Konta was next to play on Centre Court against Halep. The second match saw Williams take down Johanna Konta in slightly less dominant but still impressive fashion, 6-4, 6-2. "I think I definitely have a lot more to improve on.", Konta told reporters.

"I don't remember when I played against someone who is playing that well right now". Muguruza won on 74 percent of her first serves and won 19 of 25 net points. "I just have to be more relaxed and (have) more belief in myself". I did think of that. Hopefully next time I will be able to go a step further.

"I haven't really seen her matches, honestly. I wanted to acknowledge the crowd".

Such a sum is more than seven times larger than Konta's combined Wimbledon earnings before this year's tournament.

1 acknowledged she was outclassed as the 10th seed overpowered her to set up a final with Garbine Muguruza on Saturday. After all, with millions glued to their screens at home, she was just two matches away from making history. "I tried to climb on top and get another point". She knows how to play, especially Wimbledon finals. "I feel like she wants these majors, she'll have an opportunity".
