Do stated that he intends to discuss possible ways to ensure North Korea's participation at Pyeongchang 2018 with the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Jang Woong, the North's delegate to the International Olympic Committee, will meet IOC president Mr Bach in South Korea next week. The minister said PyeongChang 2018 could be the "Peace Olympics" if North Korea was to participate.
According to Yonhap, Do has suggested a combined Korean women's ice hockey team to ensure North Korea's involvement.
South Korea's sports minister, Do Jong-hwan, suggested that North Korea host some events at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympic games in an attempt to engage Kim Jong Un and promote peace, the Guardian reports.
PyeongChang 2018 will take place from February 9 to 25 next year in PyeongChang, some 180 kilometers east of Seoul, and its neighboring sub-host cities in Gangwon Province.
