Korea may get North to co-host Olympic ski events

Do stated that he intends to discuss possible ways to ensure North Korea's participation at Pyeongchang 2018 with the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Jang Woong, the North's delegate to the International Olympic Committee, will meet IOC president Mr Bach in South Korea next week. The minister said PyeongChang 2018 could be the "Peace Olympics" if North Korea was to participate.

A number of ski travel companies including Ski Safari offer ski holidays to South Korean Olympic destination resorts but have said they can't offer holidays during the Olympic period.

According to Yonhap, Do has suggested a combined Korean women's ice hockey team to ensure North Korea's involvement.

South Korea's sports minister, Do Jong-hwan, suggested that North Korea host some events at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympic games in an attempt to engage Kim Jong Un and promote peace, the Guardian reports.

PyeongChang 2018 will take place from February 9 to 25 next year in PyeongChang, some 180 kilometers east of Seoul, and its neighboring sub-host cities in Gangwon Province.

On Friday, South Korea tested a ballistic missile which officials said would be capable of "incapacitating North Korean nuclear and missile treats".

"Given President Moon Jae-in's underlying belief in the need for dialogue, reconciliation and cooperation between the two Koreas, it certainly makes sense that South Korea would try some form of co-hosting".
