Korea is in a state of unresponsive wakefulness, doctors say

19 June 2017, 12:41 | Leonard Manning

Warmbier was found guilty in March, 2016, of "hostile acts against the state" for his attempt to steal a propaganda poster on his last night in North Korea before a scheduled trip to Hong Kong as part of a study overseas trip sponsored by the University of Virginia.

They say he doesn't show any consistent response to stimulation, shows no sign of understanding language, responding to commands or awareness of his environment.

Fred Warmbier also said the family does not believe North Korea's story that "botulism and sleeping pill" caused his coma.

US and North Korean officials said Rodman played no role in freeing Warmbier and the timing of the release and Rodman's arrival was a coincidence.

But they could not definitively say what could have caused such an event, saying they had found no signs of a botulism infection - the explanation given by the North Korean regime for how the young man fell into a coma.

Mr. Warmbier was arrested last year during a trip to Pyongyang and given a 15-year prison term for allegedly planning hostile acts against the state. They said they wanted all to know they and their son had been "brutalised and terrorised by the pariah regime".

Bill Richardson, a former USA ambassador to the United Nations, called for an investigation into what happened to Warmbier.

The 22-year-old was released from his sentence this week and returned to Cincinnati Tuesday night with a severe neurological injury.

The large grille in the lower section carries cascading grille, a new standard design bit in new generation Hyundai cars. The Kona will give the South Korean brand a competitor to the Nissan Juke , Mazda CX-3 and Toyota C-HR, to name a few.

USA officials wouldn't say if Yun met with other North Korean diplomats while in the country or conducted more extensive diplomacy. Fred Warmbier said at a news conference Thursday that Trump had said he was "sorry" and criticized his predecessor Barack Obama for his failure to obtain Otto Warmbier's release earlier.

"He has spontaneous eye opening and blinking", said Dr. Daniel Kanter, director of neurocritical care for the University of Cincinnati Health system.

Yun boarded a private aircraft along with two doctors and arrived Monday in Pyongyang, where they were met by North Korean officials and saw Warmbier in a hospital.

The Washington Post also condemned the North for its "horrendous mistreatment" of Warmbier and urged the U.S. to step up sanctions on the Kim Jong-un regime. "This pattern of brain injury, however, is usually seen as a result of cardiopulmonary arrest where the blood supply to the brain is inadequate for a period of time resulting in the death of brain tissue". Three other USA citizens are being held by the regime; President Trump should make their release a priority.

"Earlier this year, Cindy and I decided the time for strategic patience was over, and we made a few media appearances and traveled to Washington to meet with Ambassador Joe Yun at the State Department", explained Fred, according to Breitbart.

The Warmbier family kept quiet "on the false premise that (North Korea) would treat Otto fairly and let him go".

He said Otto "is not in great shape right now" and that his family is "adjusting to a different reality".

Warmbier's release coincided with basketball star Dennis Rodman's latest visit to North Korea, though Michael Anton, a USA national security spokesman, told CNN there is no connection between the two. Three other Americans remain detained in North Korea.
