Fighter jets deal shows deep U.S. support

Turkey's FM heads to Riyadh to mediate the Qatar crisis

The sale of 36 US F-15 jets to Qatar is "more of a procedural" move than a "political" one, a U.S. defense analyst told Arab News, adding that defense and security ties between Doha and Washington remain integral to American interests.

"We are receiving reports that specific individuals have already been summarily instructed to leave the country they are residing in, or have been ordered to return home by their own government", Hussein said.

"America's relationship with Qatar is built on the foundation of bilateral security agreements and Qatar's strong role in facilitating USA military forward deployment in the Middle East".

That deal was worth an estimated value of $21 billion.

Just in November a year ago, USA has approved a possible sale of F-15QA aircraft to Qatar for $21.1 billion where it can get upto 72 fighter aircrafts. "America's support for Qatar is deep-rooted and not easily influenced by political changes". Qatar hosts the regional headquarters for U.S. Central Command, which includes a state-of-the-art air base the U.S. depends on to target "Islamic State".

Turkish Presidential Guards Charged Over Violent Brawl With Protesters
Washington police officials confirmed that the two Americans are Sinan Narin , of Virginia, and Eyup Yildirim , of New Jersey. Things became messy when the security detail and a few Erdogan supporters attacked the protesters.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, on a Gulf tour trying to help broker an end to the crisis, defended the deal.

Two U.S warships arrived in Qatar's Hamad Port on Wednesday to conduct a joint military drill but details have not been shared, Qatar News Agency was quoted.

The Pentagon said the jets sale would increase security cooperation between the USA and Qatar and help them operate together.

Kuwait's Emir Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah has launched a mediation effort after Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt severed ties with Qatar, accusing it of sponsoring terrorism. "We must lay these out in order to solve this problem".

Cavusoglu, who visited Qatar and Kuwait to try to push diplomatic efforts to resolve the crisis, said on Thursday he intends to travel to Saudi Arabia on Friday for talks with Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz about the crisis.
