"It's fitting that this is before us during pride week in OR and pride month around the country".

According to BuzzFeed, the Oregon Transportation Commission approved a rule on Thursday that will allow people living in the state to officially declare their gender as non-binary on their driver's licenses. But Diane Goodwin with Basic Rights Oregon said the change is necessary to move the issue forward.

Shupe made history a year ago when he became the first person in the U.S.to win the right to legally identify as non-binary.

Oregonians filling in DMV information will be able to mark male, female or not-specified.

The policy comes at a time when the U.S.is becoming somewhat more receptive to the idea that gender identity - whether you feel yourself to be male, female, or other - is about self-perception, and distinct from the sex you're assigned at birth. Non-binary identities are as varied as an individual's gender expression, meaning that two non-binary people may identify in totally different ways, just as two women or two men might.

"It's exciting to see Oregon's Department of Motor Vehicles adopt this change", she said in a press release".

EA debuts Star Wars Battlefront 2 at this years E3
The three-stage match pits Battle Droid against Clone Troopers, with players controlling A-Wings, AAT tanks, and Vulture Droids. It is nice to see it is getting new content and the support that it should be getting from the developers and publisher.

Citizens of Australia and New Zealand already have the option to choose "X" on their passports, and in India passport applicants can pick Male, Female or Eunuch. "It's something that we should do because it's the right thing to do".

As Sam Levin of the Guardian notes, instituting a third option on state IDs may prevent people from facing questioning and discrimination because their legal documents do not match their gender presentation.

California's state Senate passed a bill last month to add a third gender options on state IDs. The California Family Council, a conservative Christian group, opposes it, arguing that "government documents need to reflect biological facts for identification".

In Oregon, the process for deciding whether to implement a third sex field may have began with Shupe's court judgment, but it continued over a year of conversations among the Transportation Department, statewide agencies and law enforcement, and motor vehicle departments nationwide. According to David House, a DMV spokesperson, "There was very little opposition" to the change.

Gender identity has become a major flashpoint across the U.S. in places like North Carolina, which passed a bill forcing students to use toilets according to the sex listed on their birth certificates.
