Tommy Haas is looking forward to a meeting with his good friend Roger Federer in the second round of the Stuttgart Open after winning through on Tuesday.

Roger Federer is set to make a return to the tennis court on Wednesday after sitting out the clay court season.

He now says he is fully prepared for other tournaments and assured that there will no be no more breaks. Haas saved nine of 12 break points and converted two of three of his own, which culminated to just enough to hand Federer his second loss of the season.

It was an incredible win for Haas - once world No 2 but now ranked down at 302 - who triumphed in the first round in Stuttgart.

"I'm pretty speechless. Playing Roger is always very special, especially on grass".

It was Federer's first match back since missing the French Open, and the result denies him vital practice before Wimbledon.

Federer, 35, skipped the entirety of the clay-court season to recharge his batteries for the forthcoming grass and hard-court seasons headlined by the Wimbledon and U.S. Open. Coming here and losing in the semis last year, now the opening round this year, it's not what I was hoping to do.

Islamists kill 13 Philippine marines in wartorn Marawi city
He said they were killed during an "intense firefight" on Friday as they were conducting operations to clear enemy positions. The fresh casualties brought to 58 the number of government troops killed in the fighting, Herrera said.

Federer has gotten the better of his friend in head-to-head matches, winning 13 of the 16 career encounters.

Federer begins his Stuttgart campaign against German veteran Tommy Haas, where victory would be the 1,100th of his professional career.

Tomic eventually prevailed over the world No.139 6-1 5-7 6-2 but not before blowing a seemingly unassailable lead in spectacular fashion. For him it's going to be all about staying injury free.

Federer said he expected Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic, Kei Nishikori and Stan Wawrinka to step up their game in the second half of the season. We'll all be playing our best tennis.

Returning to action in Australia in January, Federer proved that reports of his demise had been greatly exaggerated as he ended a five-year wait for his 18th major triumph by beating Rafael Nadal in a thrilling five-setter.

Haas will face Mischa Zverev in the quarter-finals. Nadal has already sealed his berth for the year-ender in London in November and looks to be in great form to end the year as No 1. His last title came way back in 2013 when he won Vienna Open.
