Sessions to Answer Questions Before Public at Intelligence Committee
13 June 2017, 11:02 | Sue Hudson
7 things to know now: Sessions to testify; Pulse attack anniversary; Penguins win; Powerball
When Comey testified in an open session before the same committee last Tuesday, June 9, he told the Senators that the FBI had expected Sessions - who in the administration chain of command was Comey's direct boss - to recuse himself from the Russian Federation investigation. Dick Durbin is hoping Attorney General Jeff Sessions has answers to a number of questions when he testifies before the Senate Intelligence Committee on Tuesday, as the panel continues its investigation of the Trump campaign's ties to Russian Federation.
"He believes it is important for the American people to hear the truth directly from him and looks forward to answering the committee's questions tomorrow", DOJ spokeswoman Sarah Isgur Flores said in a statement.

Reed said he also wants to know if Sessions had more meetings with Russian officials as a Trump campaign adviser than have been disclosed.
On Monday, the White House did not rule out the possibility of Sessions invoking executive privilege at some point during his testimony.
Comey told the intelligence committee in a closed session that Sessions may have had a third, undisclosed interaction with Russia's ambassador to the U.S., according to people familiar with the briefing.
The abrupt schedule change follows blockbuster testimony last week from former FBI Director James B. Comey.
When it was first scheduled, the hearing was part of the annual budget appropriations process. Republicans have pressed Trump to say whether he has tapes of private conversations with Comey and provide them to Congress if he does - or possibly face a subpoena.
Like many top USA officials did last week, Sessions is expected to claim executive privilege, insisting that it would not be appropriate to publicly discuss private talks he had with the president.
Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein, a member of both the Senate intelligence and judiciary committees, has said Sessions should answer questions about his January testimony.Intelligence Committee members will also likely ask Sessions about a possible third undisclosed meeting with Kislyak that is now under investigation, according to media reports.Sessions, an early supporter of Trump's election campaign, will be the most senior government official to testify to the committee on the Russian Federation issue, which has dogged the Republican president's early months in office.Critics charged that by firing Comey on May 9, Trump was trying to hinder the FBI's Russian Federation probe. The request came, according to Comey, after a February 14 Oval Office meeting in which Comey alleges the president asked everyone, including Sessions to leave the room.
