Watch The First Trailer For District 9 Director's New Short Film Coming To Steam

Neill Blomkamp may not be making his proposed Aliens sequel as we'd all hoped, but if this first trailer for the District 9 director's upcoming short film project is anything to go by, certain elements from that film will surely end up in front of our eyes. It's first trailer also shows off a lizard-like creature, as well as a voice-over stating "The new world altered everyone".

With this project, it seems like Blomkamp is trying to utilize Steam as a go-to place for experimental art and as an outlet for his own wacky and weird alien invasion ideas without the limits of studio expectations. Future volumes might then be monetized, and feature film adaptations of one of the shorts could be in the cards as well.

It'll be interesting to see if Blomkamp is able to find success on the unique platform, and with the now underlooked style of short films.

Bloomberg says US does not need Washington to fulfil Paris agreement
But he said that the poorest nations, from Afghanistan to Zambia, had no plans to quit the Paris Agreement . Only two countries - Nicaragua and Syria - are not part of the Paris accord .

If you're eagle-eyed, you'll catch a quick flash of Sigourney Weaver in the trailer. "Adapt or die. It was as simple as that". If the following preview is any indication, the return to the short film format may have reinvigorated his imagination, after two films in a row that seemed to have difficulties stretching their high-concept sci-fi ideas into feature-length narratives.

Volume 1 "could be entirely free", Blomkamp mused through his Twitter account; the Oats Studio account repeated his suggestion that component parts from the experimental series, from raw footage and music to 3D models and visual effects, could be made available to purchase via PC games, software and movie store Steam. Both District 9 and 2015's Chappie were based off short films that have garnered considerable attention in their own rights since Blomkamp became a household name.

Check out the trailer for Oat Studios Volume 1 below. Alongside the question, the director posted never before seen photos from a mystery project that turned out to be Oats Studio.
