World champions Blitzboks stutter into London quarters

Blitzbokke start London campaign with a close-shave 12-10 win in African derby

Kenya, who went to London ranked 12th finished the season with 63 points, 35 points behind last year's haul.

The Red Roses got off to a flying start through prolific try scorer Dan Norton, but failed to add to that early score after some resilient defence from their neighbours from north of the border.

His replacement, Richard De Carpentier was denied a follow up effort as the two sides went at each other in an energy-sapping encounter, that saw the hosts lead 7-0 at half-time.

Samoa had lost 29-21 against Wales in their Challenge Trophy quarter final before bouncing back to beat Japan 33-7 and Russian Federation 24-19 to claim 13th place for the weekend and the season.

Scotland won their first-ever HSBC World Rugby Seven Series event when they surprisingly lifted the crown past year, and 12 months on they repeated the trick to become back-to-back champions.

Twickenham Stadium, fondly known as the cathedral of rugby, turned into a nightmare for Kenya Sevens after they were blown apart by Mike Friday's USA and South Africa during the London Sevens on Saturday.

After England lost their hat-trick hero from the semi-final Ollie Lindsay-Hague to a nasty looking injury in the opening minute, they managed to regroup and put the ball in the hands of Dan Norton who did the rest from inside his own half in typically scintillating fashion.

John Wall hits the game-winner to keep Washington alive
Porter's short floater from the lane gave him 12 points in the half, a big improvement from his scoreless performance in game 6. The Wizards became the first team in the 2017 NBA Playoffs to win at home when facing elimination, making the record now 1-10.

The Langford-based Canadian men's rugby team ran with the best of them at Twickenham in the London Sevens on Saturday and prevailed 22-19 in a stunning upset over 2016 Rio Olympic Games gold-medallist Fiji.

The Red Roses will face World Series champions South Africa in the quarterfinals on Sunday, after the Blitzboks were stunned by the United States of America 24-12 in their final pool game to finish second in their group.

Sitting sixth on the series standings, the young Australian outfit are aiming to finish the season on a bright note after a mixed post-Olympics campaign.

Earlier in the day, England scored a try after the hooter to beat the Blitzboks 17-12 in the Cup quarter-finals.

With NZ on the brink of a semi-final spot at Twickenham, an assistant ref noticed something wasn't quite right with the number of Kiwi players on the field.

Canada ensured their quarterfinal position with a 28-14 win against Japan and will meet Argentina in the quarters on Sunday.
