Trump Asked Comey to Shut Down Flynn Probe

FBI chief's ouster boomerangs on Trump

Donald Trump

A spokeswoman for the Federal Bureau of Investigation declined to comment on the details of the memo.

The Yedioth source assessed that the "highly sensitive" information disclosed by Trump to Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and its U.S. ambassador Sergey Kislyak was handed over recently in several meetings with USA officials on the situation in Syria. "That President Trump seems wholly indifferent to this principle, or the potentially devastating consequences of its demise, is the real scandal here".

He reportedly bribed the burglars, tried to stop the FBI from investigating the robbery, destroyed all evidence, and fired uncooperative staff members as well.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said in a statement: 'If these reports are true, the President's brazen attempt to shut down the FBI's investigation of Michael Flynn is an assault on the rule of law that is fundamental to our democracy'.

Flynn's resignation came hours after it was reported that the Justice Department had warned the White House weeks earlier that Flynn could be vulnerable to blackmail for contacts with Kislyak before Trump took office on January 20.

But the president took to Twitter to insist he had the "absolute right" to share "facts pertaining.to terrorism and airline flight safety" with Russian Federation.

The day after that Comey met with Trump in the Oval Office and wrote a memo to record the meeting because he was uneasy about the president's request, according to a person who was given a copy of the document. The White House denied the president did anything improper in his meeting with the Russians.

"We are absolutely at the edge of obstruction of justice".

Mr Trump abruptly fired Mr Comey last week, saying he did so based on his very public handling of the Hillary Clinton email probe.

News Tuesday of Trump's request of Comey immediately renewed concerns from congressional Democrats that Trump was trying to obstruct an investigation that's been examining potential coordination between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign. "Memos, transcripts, tapes - the list keeps getting longer", he said.

According to the Times, Comey wrote in the February memo that Trump told him Flynn had done nothing wrong.

The White House quickly responded to the Times story, claiming in a statement that 'the President has never asked Mr. Comey or anyone else to end any investigation, including any investigation involving General Flynn'. The memo said Comey did not say anything about ending the investigation but agreed that Flynn is a "good guy".

The administration spent the first half of Tuesday defending Trump's disclosure of classified information to senior Russian officials.

"The president wasn't even aware where this information came from", he said.

The associate also confirmed an account from the Times that Trump vented about media leaks during his conversation with Comey, and that the president expressed support for seeing reporters in prison.

The highly classified information about an Islamic State plot was collected by Israel, a crucial source of intelligence and close partner in the fight against some of the America's fiercest threats in the Middle East.

The spy in question was sent to track an ISIS plot to bring down a passenger jet en route to the United States with a bomb hidden in a laptop that USA officials think could get through airport screening machines unnoticed.

"Israel has full confidence in our intelligence-sharing relationship with the United States and looks forward to deepening that relationship in the years ahead under President Trump", Dermer said.
