Neymar Trial: Barcelona star ordered to court over £22m transfer fee
Barcelona star Neymar has been ordered by a Spanish court to stand trial over fraud and corruption charges during his transfer from Santos in 2013.
According to Sky, Neymar will stand trial alongside his parents, Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu, former Barca president Sandro Rosell and Santos.
His arrival from Santos has been a huge success for the Spanish champions on the pitch but a judicial nightmare off it.
The case follows a complaint from a company called DIS, who owned 40% of Neymar's sporting rights prior to his move to Spain and have accused the Brazilian, his father and the Catalan giants of lying about the actual transfer fee paid to Santos for the player.
At the time, Barcelona claimed the transfer fee was €57.1m (£48.5m), of which €40m (£34m) was to be paid to Neymar's family.
Last June, Barcelona agreed to pay a fine of 5.5 million euros to the Spanish authorities to settle a related tax fraud case.
In November, prosecutors recommended that the striker be handed a two-year jail sentence and a fine of 10 million euros for alleged corrupt practices.
Sentences of two years or less are habitually suspended for first time offenders in Spain.
Brazilian investment group DIS alleged it received less money than the 40 per cent it was entitled to from the disputed transfer fee and filed a lawsuit, which has resulted in a trial that will now go ahead after all appeal options were exhausted.
The two clubs, Barcelona and Brazil's Santos, were also ordered to stand trial.
The Brazilian superstar's Barcelona team-mates at the Nou Camp, Lionel Messi and Javier Mascherano, were both sentenced to time in jail - of 21 and 12 months respectively - after they were both found guilty of tax fraud.
