Microsoft to stick with twice-a-year feature updates for Windows 10

Another positive change announced today is Microsoft's is extended the support period for Windows 10 feature updates as well as the Office 365 ProPlus updates from 12 to 18 months.

The Redmond giant reiterates its commitment towards the deployment and servicing Windows 10 and Office 365 ProPlus making it easier for organisations. The company's System Center Configuration Manager, which allows businesses to manage all their systems from one central platform, will also become part of the further entrenched twice-per-year upgrade schedule.

The two-per-year rule and timing will also apply to the Office 365 application bundle-well, at least to the Office ProPlus version of the cloud applications suite.

It continues: "In this latest Insider Preview build (Build 16176), we leveraged modern silicon capabilities to run background work in a power-efficient manner, thereby enhancing battery life significantly while still giving users access to powerful multitasking capabilities of Windows".

What does Trump's 'Buy American, Hire American' order actually do?
White House spokesman Sean Spicer said Trump wanted to visit "a company that builds American-made tools with American workers". H-1B visas admit 65,000 workers and another 20,000 graduate student workers each year, mainly in the tech sector.

This new synced release schedule will begin in September 2017, when Microsoft is expected to launch Windows 10 Redstone 3 (or whatever its new name will be by then). You can download the update or indeed the app if you do not have it, through the Windows Store.

A developer has issued a patch that will enable users of Windows 7 and 8.1 to circumvent Microsoft's ban on machines with the most modern chipsets from receiving critical updates.

Microsoft flagged its new policy early previous year, telling the users that Windows 10 will be the only supported Windows platform on Intel's upcoming 7th Gen Intel Core (Kaby Lake) based CPUs. That means it'll probably be included in the next major Windows 10 update. Another recent upgrade to Windows 10, Game Mode, was described by Microsoft as delivering "an improvement in overall game performance" but tests found the difference in most use cases was largely imperceptible. "Until this new requirement goes into effect in 2020, Office 2010, Office 2013 and Office 2016 perpetual clients will still be able to connect to Office 365 services", the announcement reads.

As for what's coming in the next version of Windows - codenamed Redstone 3 - the most exciting bit is probably the UI overhaul dubbed Project Neon which Microsoft teased back in February.
