Suspect in Facebook video killing shoots himself to death

Responding troopers spotted Stephens leaving the restaurant in Erie and went after him, bumping his auto to try to get it to stop, authorities said.

The man accused of randomly gunning down a Cleveland retiree and posting the video to Facebook took his own life in Pennsylvania, where police were tipped off by a McDonald's worker.

Stephens had been on the run for almost 48 hours after posting grisly video on Facebook of himself shooting and killing 74-year-old Robert Godwin, Sr.at 695 East 93rd Street in Cleveland. The chilling clip was posted on Facebook and remained there for three hours before it was eventually removed, sparking criticism of the social media platform.

On Monday, Facebook's vice president of global operations, Justin Osofsky, said they were "reviewing our reporting flows" following the Easter Sunday tragedy.

Officials in the OH city said they were looking for Steve Stephens in connection with the one confirmed killing.

Until the investigation is complete, Williams said, "we won't actually know where he was and what he was doing".

When police tracked down Stephens' vehicle, they pursued him while trying to get him to pull over.
