Suspect in Facebook video killing shoots himself to death

"As the vehicle was spinning out of control from the PIT maneuver, Stephens pulled a pistol and shot himself in the head".

Responding troopers spotted Stephens leaving the restaurant in Erie and went after him, bumping his auto to try to get it to stop, authorities said.

The man accused of randomly gunning down a Cleveland retiree and posting the video to Facebook took his own life in Pennsylvania, where police were tipped off by a McDonald's worker.

Stephens had been on the run for almost 48 hours after posting grisly video on Facebook of himself shooting and killing 74-year-old Robert Godwin, Sr.at 695 East 93rd Street in Cleveland. The chilling clip was posted on Facebook and remained there for three hours before it was eventually removed, sparking criticism of the social media platform.

PBS NewsHour will update this story as it develops.

On Monday, Facebook's vice president of global operations, Justin Osofsky, said they were "reviewing our reporting flows" following the Easter Sunday tragedy.

Officials in the OH city said they were looking for Steve Stephens in connection with the one confirmed killing.

We haven't seen him play like that in a long, long time. "As I told him, 'Way to run your team.' He did an awesome job with that". I knew there were five seconds on the shot clock and I wanted to get to my spot.

Police have yet to issue a statement addressing whether or not they believe he was telling the truth.

Authorities said Stephens killed Godwin and posted video of the killing on Facebook before fleeing the state, triggering a nationwide manhunt.

Stephens took a video of himself shooting 74-year-old Robert Godwin in the street as he walked home from Easter meal with his children.

"She's the reason that this is about to happen to you", Stephens told the elderly father of nine in the video. Video of his death was posted to Facebook by his alleged killer, Steve Stephens.

Until the investigation is complete, Williams said, "we won't actually know where he was and what he was doing".

When police tracked down Stephens' vehicle, they pursued him while trying to get him to pull over.
