Oxford and Cambridge Boat Races

The Metropolitan Police are urging all race goers that will attend Sunday's Boat Race to be extra vigilant, the warning comes following the horrific terrorist attack at Parliament.

Cambridge clocked 18 minutes and 33 seconds to end a run of four straight losses registering only their second success during the last 10 years.

Disappointed Cambridge captain Lance Tredell delivered a defiant message ahead of next year's race: "Bitterly disappointed not to get the result today".

In the women's race, Cambridge posted a record time in destroying Oxford by 11 lengths.

Cambridge club president Ashton Brown suffered pneumonia past year when the boat was swamped and she was overjoyed at the 2017 victory. It was Cambridge's first victory since 2012, and it was definitely one to savour.

A length ahead by Barnes Bridge, Oxford didn't quite have Cambridge breathing down their necks, but the Light Blues had done enough to make a race of it, always in sight of the leaders but never quite close enough.

The Boat Race had been in doubt after an unexploded Second World War bomb was found in the river near the start line, before being safely removed by police.

Oil demand to slow for the 2nd year in a row: IEA
The International Energy Agency expects growth in the global demand for crude oil to slow for a second consecutive year in 2017. OECD stocks "drew moderately" in February and the IEA anticipates they will dip down further in March.

It was their fourth victory in the past five years although Cambridge still have an overall lead of 82-80.

For the Oxford team the astonishing manner of their defeat was even harder to stomach after the crew came through injury and illness to reach the start line.

It also comes after four straight victories for Oxford's women, who have also won eight of the past nine, and after Cambridge nearly sank in 2016.

She said: "I'm just so proud of my squad, so proud of the team this year".

He expected it to be "a very fast day for us" and his faith was rewarded when Cambridge broke the race record by a minute, recording a quicker time than their male crew produced in the 2016 event.

Oxford coach Sean Bowden was full of compliments for a Cambridge boat that had given it their all: "We were ready for some aggressive coxing from Cambridge", he said.

In 1912, after the sinking of the famous Titanic in the same month, both crews sank in turbulent wind and wave conditions of the 69th race.
