Senate bill to curb teacher-student relationships moves to House floor

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security acknowledged last month that ICE detainers are not legally binding and that local jurisdictions have various policies regarding whether to honor the agency's requests.
He believes the House will concur on the bill - one of Gov. Eric Holcomb's legislative items. "I haven't heard a ton from people, except maybe Ricker's employees, or people who are effected, liquor store employees who are sending in emails at the request of their employer".
Citing concerns that it was too vague, Geren said he worked with the attorney general's office to include instead a prohibition on a "pattern and practice" of barring officers from enforcing ICE requests.
The bill allows Montana breweries to grow beyond 10,000 barrels of annual production without losing the ability to operate a taproom, which are limited to serving 48 ounces of beer and can not serve past 8 p.m.
"We wouldn't be even talking today if we didn't have the ability to sell three pints between noon and 8 p.m. starting in 1999", he said.
"We want to have the opportunity, before it turns into controlled unsafe substance plus a burglary or robbery, the opportunity for the district attorneys to have this information", Brecheen said.
Among other things, the measure would prohibit the state Board of Education and school districts from preventing teachers "from helping students understand, analyze, critique and review in an objective manner the scientific strengths and weaknesses of existing scientific theories covered in the course being taught".
It appears to have no chance of passage in the Republican-controlled House.
"It's only one third of the cost of the other methodologies, which is a very attractive aspect of it", Senate Pro Tem Long said.
Acknowledging that legislators won't finish work on time, Senate President Pete Kelly (R-Fairbanks) sent a letter to House Speaker Bryce Edgmon (D-Dillingham), asking him to narrow the legislature's focus. My complete focus is on roads and budget now.
Leaders of the Republican-led Senate have shown little interest in taxes.
Some lawmakers want to gavel the current session to a close by the end of next week, but it's unclear if they can do so because of the number of pressing issues that remain to be handled, including a possible vote on an infrastructure package and the state budget. "It's really been a bit of an explosion", Bettencourt said.
Kelly said the Senate passed the bills the majority promised. "I'm used to it". Lawmakers are a week ahead of schedule. System officials have said they'd probably offset the shortfall with a tuition increase.
Long-range hurricane season forecasts fall below-average
Research Scientist Phil Klotzbach says, "the key thing with all of our seasonal forecasts is that it's an informational tool". While I do agree with the prospect of a slower hurricane season, do not see this as a decreased threat for Louisiana.
