Airstrikes on Syria might also send message to North Korea

Airstrikes on Syria might also send message to North Korea

On Sunday, a North Korean Foreign Ministry official was quoted on state-run media as vowing to step up the country's defenses to protect itself from airstrikes like the US carried out against Syria last week.

The U.S. removed its nukes from South Korea 25 years ago.

"We will bolster up in every way our capability for self-defense to cope with the USA evermore reckless moves for a war and defend ourselves with our own force", the official said, according to the report.

U.S. military chiefs are said to be preparing for a "war today" scenario to deal with North Korea. It claims its nuclear weapons are a necessary deterrent to the US military threat.

The consideration for military proliferation in South Korea comes amidst rising tensions in the region, as the North launched ballistic missile tests on Wednesday morning in another provocative act.

Sen. Lindsay Graham is calling for as many as 6,000 more USA troops to fight the Islamic State group.

The strike group has participated in numerous exercises with Japan and the South Korea and conducted routine patrol operations in the South China Sea since its January 5 deployment from San Diego, California, the Navy statement said. Among the topics of discussion was the vexing problem of North Korea.

US President Donald Trump speaks at a press conference in the Rose Garden at the White House on April 5, 2017.

Not such a big provocation for North Korea as one of the other options, is to just assassinate Kim Jong-un and other North Korean officials outright, with former NATO commander James Stavridis saying that the killings are "always a tempting strategy".

Trump met with China's president earlier this week in Florida.

Not so sticky: MLB says no violation in Molina stuck ball
That's because since he dropped the strikeout pitch, it allowed Szczur to get on base since he couldn't throw it to first in time. Cardinals RF Stephen Piscotty (head contusion) appeared Thursday as part of a double-switch in the sixth inning and went 0-for-2.

H.R. McMaster says there is no contradiction between comments by Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, who says IS must be defeated first, and Nikki Haley, the USA ambassador to the United Nations who contends that getting Assad out is a priority.

"There is a difference between Syria and North Korea", Yamamoto said.

North Korea has been trying to develop a long-range missile carrying a nuclear warhead that is capable of hitting the USA mainland, a distance of about 8,000 kilometers. "Xi Jinping, the Chinese leader visiting Mar-a-Lago, nearly certainly interpreted the strike as a sign of disrespect to him". Rand Paul (R-Ky.) said on CNN Saturday, reiterating his role as a chief critic of the Trump administration's strike against Syrian regime targets Thursday night.

The strike group includes the Carl Vinson, several guided-missile destroyers and a guided-missile cruiser, according to a statement on the navy's website.

North Korea launched a projectile on Wednesday, which USA officials said appeared to be a liquid-fuelled, extended-range Scud missile that only travelled a fraction of its range before spinning out of control and crashing into the sea.

The United States maintains about 28,500 servicemembers in South Korea and some 50,000 in Japan.

North Korea is not afraid of President Donald Trump's strikes on Syria, a state-run media outlet said Sunday.

The South Carolina Republican also wants additional penalties imposed on Russia for what he calls Moscow's "aiding and abetting" of Syrian President Bashar Assad (bah-SHAR' AH'-sahd) in the use of chemical weapons - and for Russian meddling in the 2016 American election. It was accused of having its leader's half brother, Kim Jong Nam, assassinated with VX nerve agent at a Malaysian airport on February 13.

Syria denies it carried out the attack.
