The Year of Russell Westbrook continues as he etches name in history

09 April 2017, 02:49 | Simon Arnold

Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson had been the last and only player to average the feat.

November 28: At Madison Square Garden, Westbrook torches the Knicks for 27 points, 17 rebounds and 14 assists, raising his season rebounding average from 9.9 to 10.3. The 13-game losing streak is over.

One reporter said to Westbrook, "It felt like in the fourth quarter you were hunting assists, that you were passing up shots", and Westbrook, clearly annoyed, interrupted him with his response.

First quarter: It was not a good start for Westbrook, who had four turnovers before his first assist. I thought it would be a shame to have either one of these players not get the MVP award and sharing the award made sense.

According to ESPN, the Thunder point guard has played almost 10 fewer minutes and around 25 fewer possessions per game less than Robertson did during his record-setting season.

December 31: In a blowout win against the Clippers, Westbrook finishes with 17 points, 12 rebounds and 14 assists, his 16th triple-double of the season.

On Wednesday, he was just one rebound shy of the mark, finishing with 45 points on 14-of-25 shooting along with nine boards and 10 dimes against the Memphis Grizzlies.

Boban Marjanovic, Detroit's 7-foot-3 backup centre, led the Pistons with a career-high 27 points with 12 rebounds off the bench and Stanley Johnson hit a tiebreaking 3-pointer with 32.4 seconds left before adding two free throws to lift the Pistons to the 114-109 victory Friday night.

He missed his first 11 shots before sinking a 17-footer with 50.4 seconds left in the half. Like I said, I'm a competitor. The Cavs now lead the East by one game over Boston and own the tiebreaker between the two clubs with three games to play for each team. "It's nothing new, but it was a little different this game".

"It was insane", said Tyler Ulis. He now has six 20-point quarters, moving past Westbrook and Steph Curry for the most in the National Basketball Association this season. Westbrook already has his 10-10 clinched for APG and RPG before he even steps on to the court. "My job is to see what's going on, and try to find guys that'll make some shots and maybe we can get something going". "I've seen enough miraculous things this year: At Dallas, at Orlando and some other places..."

Westbrook has three more chances for that 42nd triple-double, two of them against Denver.

Phoenix put up 39 points in the second quarter and pushed their lead to 71-43 Phoenix on a Warren jumper with 1:03 left to set a season high for points in the first half. "I wasn't making the shots, so somebody else can help".
