Patrick Ewing to Become Head Coach of the Georgetown Hoyas

Ewing faces a tall order at Georgetown

Patrick Ewing Hire Was A Home Run For Georgetown

Patrick Ewing will replace, John Thompson III, at the helm of the Georgetown Hoyas. But Ewing finally landed a much-deserved a head gig.

There's a legitimate debate about Georgetown reaching back in time to hire Patrick Ewing as the school's men's basketball coach.

But with John Thompson Jr. still clearly lording over the program some 18 years after he retired, perhaps the program is hoping to protect their brand from something like this happening again. He has also been an assistant with the Magic, Wizards and Hornets. Drexler, on the other hand, became the head coach at his alma mater immediately upon retiring as an National Basketball Association player, spending two failed seasons there before resigning. For day one, that just what the fans and the program needed. "Georgetown is my home and it is a great honor for me to return to my alma mater and serve as the next head coach. And I think that I'm very prepared to be successful here".

"It's a Georgetown thing to my knowledge", Ewing said before the hosts said that they would "lobby on your behalf". That is thanks in part to his signature sneakers still being worn today, but also because he was part of the timelessly iconic U.S. Olympic "Dream Team", and because he is a living legend in NY, where he is arguably the greatest player in the history of the Knicks.

"Of all the players that have gone from superstardom to putting in the time and paying their dues to becoming a head coach, Patrick deserves this probably more than any player ever", said Miami Heat President Pat Riley, who coached Ewing with the Knicks. Since the possibility of returning to Georgetown has been on the table, he has spent time deliberating over how to proceed: from what style of play to employ to targeting potential assistants to navigate the complicated waters of AAU programs and high-level basketball factories that produce the kinds of recruits necessary to compete at the top levels of college basketball. "I am absolutely delighted for him, and I think he'll do a great job at Georgetown".

Messages seeking additional comment from the Mason County Sheriff's Office were not immediately returned Monday. According to Spurling, "Based on what he knew at the time and what he told us, it didn't fit self-defense".

The most ringing endorsement for Ewing came from former head coach turned analyst Jeff Van Gundy.

Conversely, Ewing - despite his Hall of Fame career as a player - began at the bottom of the coaching ranks and worked his way up.

A year later, Ewing joined the Rockets as an assistant to help develop Yao Ming.

He can break down film and put together winning game plans. His experience as a coach over the last 15 years with some of the best basketball minds in the country has prepared him to lead our program.

To many people, there's nothing wrong with keeping it in the family - so long as the family has a track record of success. But school officials unquestionably made the right move by bringing in the former National Basketball Association star player to help make the Hoyas a competitive outfit once again. "So we have to see everything from back there, and know how the play is unfolding". Patrick Ewing was the first. JT3 had that Final Four run early in his regime.
