Does YouTube TV have commercials?
06 April 2017, 02:39 | Candice Butler
YouTube TV is going live with channels from media companies including The Walt Disney Company (ABC, Disney Channel, ESPN), CBS Corporation (CBS, Showtime), 21st Century Fox (FOX, FS1, FX, FOX News Channel), and NBCUniversal (NBC, MSNBC, USA Network, Bravo).
The service will available in the New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco Bay Area, Chicago and Philadelphia markets at launch with others on the way.
YouTube TV was announced at the end of February, and now the service is officially live.
All early indications are that YouTube TV is just another great option for people who are exhausted of paying for cable.
YouTube TV is the latest streaming service to beat Apple to market, with the rumoured efforts to introduce likeminded bundle reportedly hitting multiple roadblocks. If you're living in one of the cities mentioned, you can subscribe to YouTube TV if you think it suits your needs.
Separate from YouTube Red, YouTube's premium service that features content from prominent YouTubers, YouTube TV is a standalone app that's focused on a mobile first experience. Sony previously tried that strategy with Vue, but altered course a year ago for its nationwide rollout. While not available yet, AMC, BBC America, IFC, and Sundance TV are on their way. Bundlers like YouTube need to make tough decisions about which networks to include, otherwise they'll end up with the same sky-high prices that are making cable less attractive. It also has a cloud DVR with no storage limits and six accounts are included with the service.
Naturally, the wealth of content available on YouTube is also integrated so after watching a show viewers will see links to related videos, perhaps from your favorite team's YouTube channel. Ad revenue will also be used to support the creators of regular YouTube videos shown on the streaming service.
Streaming services have had so many limitations that they seem more likely to appeal to consumers who don't watch much TV or to cord-cutters who have already ended cable TV or satellite subscriptions.
