AOL and Yahoo Are Becoming Oath

AOL and Yahoo Are Becoming Oath

Recode claims that Armstrong will lead Oath, which has been rebranded to reflect the combination of AOL and Yahoo, and that he is now deciding which Yahoo executives to keep on his team.

He tweeted: 'Billion+ Consumers, 20+ Brands, Unstoppable Team.

The Internet was roundly and immediately unkind to the companies' vaguely sinister new name.

A spokesperson at AOL told Business Insider that Oath would be launched in the summer as a new disruptive company.

An image of what appears to be the new company's logo has been posted: A boring sans serif logotype followed by a blue colon with "A Verizon Company" appearing underneath. "Say goodbye to AOL and Yahoo", reads a headline at The Week. A rep for Yahoo declined to comment beyond a statement from Mayer when the Verizon deal was first announced past year.

"This is really a B2B brand that supports our front-facing brands", Armstrong said Tuesday on CNBC's Squawk Box.

I will get deets on all the other Mayer execs, who have not exactly covered themselves in glory at Yahoo over the last fews years.

Joss Whedon to Direct Batgirl Movie
The Batgirl character was memorably played by the late Yvonne Craig on the third and final season of ABC's Batman in 1967-68. The move to place Whedon in the writer and director's chair has already brought mixed feelings among fans.

Verizon's offer to purchase the company in a multi-billion dollar buyout was seen as a lifesaver, a way for Yahoo to recover and allow for a restructuring of management.

The deal with Verizon is expected to close by July and would end Yahoo's run of more than 20 years as an independent company.

Verizon plans to take over Yahoo's email and other online operations sometime between now and June 30. Yahoo was set to be sold at $4.8 billion before two separate hacking attacks threatened to derail the deal.

The deal was originally worth $350 million more than what it's valued at now, before several Yahoo security breaches were disclosed, according to Tech Crunch.

Yahoo chief executive Marissa Mayer. McInerney has served as a member of Yahoo's board since April 2012.

Yahoo as we know it may be done. That name is Altaba Inc, which isn't too much better than Oath.
