White House Officials Aided Nunes in Getting Intel

Ex-Deputy AG Sally Yates Says Trump Tried to Limit Her Testimony on Russia

House Intelligence Committee Ranking Member Adam Schiff (D-CA) met with Chairman Devin Nunes (R-CA) on Thursday following several days of tension over their investigation into Russia's potential meddling in USA elections.

Cohen-Watnick was almost fired earlier in the month at the request of National Security Advisor Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster, but was overruled by US President Donald Trump after he appealed to White House advisers Stephen Bannon and Jared Kushner, Trump's Jewish son-in-law.

Asked about the report during a press briefing, White House spokesman Sean Spicer repeatedly danced around questions regarding whether any White House official provided Nunes with the materials - instead maintaining that the White House is "not as obsessed with the process as much as the substance".

Spicer said the information was uncovered by the National Security Council, but would not specify whether it was the same intelligence that House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes received at the White House last week.

The Times identified Ezra Cohen-Watnick of the National Security Council and Michael Ellis, a national security lawyer with the White House Counsel's Office, as the two officials who played a role.

"I can not get into who those individuals were", Spicer said at the daily news briefing.

In his response, the Democrat said that the full committee should be able to see the materials.

Man swallowed by python
Pythons rarely try to eat humans, though sometimes they are capable of swallowing small children. Local media reports suggested that Akbar's boots were clearly visible in the python's stomach.

Speaking on Capitol Hill Thursday, Schiff said he was "more than willing" to accept the White House offer to view new information.

Spicer's comments come as the leaders of the House intelligence committee are trying to get their Russian Federation investigation back on the rails, according to Schiff.

"We're doing our best to try and get the investigation back on track", Schiff said following the meeting.

The committee leaders were trying to agree on a common set of initial witnesses, Schiff said, an issue that prompted the cancellation of both an open and closed hearing this week. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) called for Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (WI) to replace Nunes as chair; Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), backed by Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), called for him to resign.

Two White House officials played a role in providing House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes with documents showing Trump and his associates were swept up in surveillance by USA intelligence agencies, the New York Times reports.

Rep. Ryan refused to remove Nunes today, and Nunes dismissed the calls for him to recuse himself.

Nunes went to the White House grounds to look at the information without informing Schiff, then held a Must-See-TV news conference to say he'd gotten hold of some hot stuff, then went to the White House to inform President Trump of the details.
