Supreme Court rules school districts must individualize education for disabled students
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) has suggested that Democrats would attempt to delay the Gorsuch nomination because of the FBI investigation into potential connections between the Trump campaign and Russian officials.
Schumer's Thursday announcement came after Gorsuch completed more than 20 hours of grilling at the hands of the Senate Judiciary Committee. "My vote will be "no", and I urge my colleagues to do the same", he added. "But Judge Gorsuch seems to favor the expansion of corporate power over individual rights", Reed said. Such a deal would give Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer a preemptive veto over the next Supreme Court nominee.
With the rules changed, President Obama was able to get several of his nominees for the D.C. Circuit confirmed, thereby enabling the Democrats to get a majority of the judges on the second most important court in the country. That rule change eliminated the possibility of a filibuster in the contexts of nominees to head agencies or to be judges.
The move will force Republicans to find a supermajority of 60 votes to advance Judge Neil Gorsuch's nomination to a confirmation vote.
Israeli Jew Arrested For String Of JCC Bomb Threats It's unclear how numerous threats today's arrestee was responsible for, but investigators are treating him as a central suspect. Police banned publication of his name, but said he was a dual citizen and would remain in custody until at least March 30.
Key Democrats in the Senate have threatened a filibuster.
Earlier this week, Schumer argued that no vote on Gorsuch should be taken until the FBI concludes its investigation into Russian meddling allegedly meant to help Trump win the presidency.
Either McConnell will change the rules to require a simple majority for Supreme Court confirmation, or Gorsuch will sit in Merrick Garland limbo land until there are 60 Republicans in the Senate, or Trump picks a new nominee.
He pushed even harder in that direction in his interview with Politico. It's not even about their honest frustration with Gorsuch's unwillingness to give satisfying answers to their questions during the hearings, because that's exactly what they and everyone else expected. I will be voting NO on Judge Gorsuch and will oppose a cloture motion ending debate on his nomination. "Most Americans question whether we need a Supreme Court justice with the vision of Donald Trump", commented Sen.
