Hyundai Recalls 978000 Sonata and Sonata Hybrids

New Hyundai Sonata interior

Hyundai and the seat belt supplier continue to investigate this issue, the company said in its filing with the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The seatbelts were manufactured by ZF-TRW in Livonia, Michigan.

The Problem: The seat belt linkages for both front seat belts may detach from the seat belt anchor pretensioners, increasing the risk of injury in a crash. If that's the case, a collision might cause the linkage to separate from the pretensioner.

The issue affecting the cars is a fastener on the seat belt anchor which may not have been fully latched during assembly, leading to the possibility of the belt becoming detached.

The automaker says it's aware of one minor injury related to the problem.

Explosion and gunfire hit military hospital in Kabul
In a series of tweets last month, Ghani said the fight against terrorism goes beyond just Afghanistan. Another ISIS suicide bomber killed 22 in an attack on the Afghan Supreme Court in February.

Hyundai has received at least two reports from owners about seatbelts detaching during collisions.

If you own one of these vehicles and have further questions, you're encouraged to call Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460 and ask about recall #160.

Owners will be notified of the recall beginning April 7. Dealers will inspect the seat belt anchor system and fix it if needed.

The company will have to fix the interior of almost one million vehicles in order to ensure that they are safe.
