French President Francois Hollande speaks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel on the second day of a European Summit at the Europa Building at the EU headquarters in Brussels

Both leaders are expected to hold a press conference and a working lunch at the White House. Merkel has been a leading critic of Trump's effort to ban travelers temporarily from seven Muslim-majority nations, a list that has since been pared back to six.

It will be the first meeting between Europe's most powerful leader and Mr Trump, who has criticised Germany over a range of issues, including Dr Merkel's liberal refugee stance. In preparation for tomorrow's meeting, she met with Vice President Mike Pence in Munich last month, and has been grilling fellow world leaders like Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for their tips on dealing with Trump in person.

"Merkel and Trump really are the polar opposite of each other on so many levels".

Driven by Events: Merkel's Refugee Policy by political journalist Robin Alexander says Mrs. Merkel was warned 40,000 migrants were travelling through the Balkans and could enter Germany in a single weekend.

According to research by European Women on Boards (EWoB), women occupy less than a quarter of all United Kingdom board positions. A man who works nearby said, "I have two daughters and I thought it was pretty impressive that they have this up here".

Merkel, however, will need to look past Trump's past comments, when he accused her of "ruining Germany" because of her acceptance of refugees.

Mr Trump will use his first face-to-face meeting with Angela Merkel to put pressure on Germany to "share the burden" of North Atlantic Treaty Organisation spending, a senior administration official said. "I will of course point out that for us, our country and our membership in the European Union are two sides of the same coin", Merkel said in Brussels ahead of the visit.

Talks between German officials and the Trump administration suggest that there will be close cooperation between the two countries on policy toward Russian Federation, a senior German government official says.
