International Women's Day: protests, activism and a strike

Led by the same organization that created the Women's March on Washington, this time the group is urging women to refrain from any kind of labor or spending to show the value of women on March 8, 2017.

March 8 became synonymous with working women's struggle in 1917 when Russian women went on strike demanding "Bread and Peace" and an end to Russia's role in the imperialist First World War - a crucial moment in the timeline of the Russian revolutionary process that ushered in the world's first socialist state, the Soviet Union.

While businesses across the country plan to close their doors in solidarity with A Day Without a Woman, many people and very small businesses can't afford to skip work or close down for the day.

"On the occasion of International Women's Day, I extend warm greetings and best wishes to women in India and in all parts of the world", he said in his message on the occasion.

97-Year-Old Twins Found Dead in RI Driveway
John Haley said the women, who were healthy and active, were outside for about 11 hours before they were found. The sisters were immediately transported to Rhode Island Hospital where they later died.

Organisers of the Global Women's Strike have joined forces with coordinators of the Women's March and hundreds of human rights and women's campaigners to capitalise on momentum in the movement in the wake of Donald Trump's election.

The event will start at 4:30 p.m. with a rally at Piatt Park, followed by protestors lining the streets with signs.

From 12 to 1pm on March 8th, Bermuda will celebrate International Women's Day and raise awareness of Women's Rights with a peaceful one mile walk.

Over the years the United Nations has used Women's History Month as a way to highlight themes like empowering rural women, ending poverty and hunger, violence against women and pushing for progress in gender equality in the workplace.
