Tanveer Hussain: Indian athlete held over sex abuse in US

Indian athlete Tanveer Hussain arrest

Paul Smith's College snowshoe racers Tyler Dezago and Rob Calamia, left and Matty "Ice" Leichty, right, stand with Indian snowshoe racer Tanveer Hussain just before last year's World Championship race in Vezza d'Oglio, Italy, in February 2016.

Tanveer Hussain was charged with the felony of first-degree sexual abuse and the misdemeanor of endangering the welfare of a child after Saranac Lake Village police received a report of the alleged incident, according to Fox News.

Parra said the two athletes had gone to the USA on their own and the council was not involved in the event. Initially, Hussain was denied U.S. visa on January 31.

Abid Khan, under whose leadership Hussain attended the competition, has also described the athlete as innocent and "naive". He and Khan had planned to leave Saranac Lake later this week, when they were scheduled to fly to New York City and then home to India.

The player was apprehended after the statement of girl who accused him of sexually assaulting her, a report in the Adirondack Daily Entreprise said. When the issue garnered media attention, the village mayor took up the matter with the United States senators and both were awarded travel permit.

Aguero to hold talks with City in June over future
The City captain has been dogged by groin and calf injuries this season, limiting him to only 341 minutes of first-team football. He's in the last process (of his recovery) and yesterday he trained with us. "I'm pretty sure he's coming back".

"I spoke to Khan and he told me that Hussain has been provided with an attorney by the state department. I have full faith in American law and let the law take its own course", Mudasir said adding that the federation can't take responsibility for the acts of an individual. Hussain was arrested after the girl and her parents lodged a complaint with police. They provided marriage certificates, property deeds, testimonies from employers and evidence of "past world travel without mishaps", Rabideau said.

"His (Hussain's) case for sponsorship is pending consideration".

A 24-year-old Indian sportsman has been detained in U.S. over charges of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl, reported NDTV.

Police said Hussain was arraigned in St. Armand court and was being held at the Essex County jail Wednesday night on $500 cash/$10,000 bond.

NBC 5 quoted Hussain's attorney, Brian Barrett saying, "I'm hoping that there's potential that this case could be resolved within the next couple of days and he can go back to India shortly".
