Arsenal academy chief Andries Jonker poised to be named Wolfsburg manager

Wolfsburg hire Arsenal academy chief Andries Jonker as new coach

Wolfsburg dispensed of previous manager Valerien Ismael on Sunday following a 2-1 home loss to Werder Bremen.

He was initially appointed on an interim basis after Dieter Hecking, now at Borussia Monchengladbach, was sacked seven games into the Bundesliga season.

Wolfsburg are now in 14th position in the Bundesliga. He has previously served as an assistant to fellow Dutchman Louis van Gaal at Bayern Munich, where he also served as the caretaker manager for a brief spell in 2011.

Jonker was offered the post this weekend and has chose to leave London to take the job, following a disappointing spell in which Arsenal were knocked out of this year's FA Youth Cup by Blackburn Rovers at the third round.

Edinburgh ranked 'second most congested city in the UK'
The figure is calculated by measuring extra travel time during peak hours against situations in which there is no congestion. Average speeds drop to 4mph in the city centre at peak times, according to the report by traffic data specialists INRIX.

"Andries Jonker knows VfL Wolfsburg and has kept regular contact with the club since his move to London", said Wolfsburg's director of sport Olaf Rebbe. "Both aspects played a role in the fact that we were able to achieve a top solution". The French coach was dismissed after a fifth defeat in sixth games left the club perilously close to the Bundesliga relegation zone, and have turned to a familiar face to drag them away from danger. "He is an internationally experienced coach and an expert tactician, who provides the best possible requirements to get VfL back on track quickly and sustainably".

Ismael, who took over on October 17, managed only five victories in 15 league games with nine defeats.

Ljungberg, 39, had also been working in the Gunners youth setup - as U15 manager - before being poached by Wolfsburg.
