An 8-year-old girl survived a auto crash in Texas only to be shot and killed moments later.
The crash and subsequent shooting took place on West Fuqua Street near Sam Houston Parkway.
According to police, the drivers of the Pontiac and the sedan then got out of their vehicles and began firing. The 8-year-old girl was identified as DeMaree Atkins, who was inside of the black Honda Accord.
DeMaree Atkins was transported to a local hospital by paramedics, where she was later pronounced dead.
Authorities are searching for the drivers of the Pontiac and the dark sedan after they fled the scene of the crime. "She never even knew what happened". Thomas remembers asking her daughter after the accident. The child was traveling with her mother, Toyia Thomas, and police believe they were just bystanders.
