President Donald Trump tweeted on Saturday that he will not attend the White House Correspondents' Dinner, scheduled to take place on April 29.

The dinner is traditionally attended by the President and the First Lady as well as other senior government officials and members of the press corps, according to the White House Correspondent Association.

Trump's announcement comes a day after Bloomberg news announced it was scrapping its annual WHCA dinner afterparty. It also follows reports that media outlets such as CNN have been weighing whether to attend the event this year. He's lobbed relentless attacks at the media since running for president and has taken even more issue with reporting surrounding his presidency since taking office January 20. He recently called news organizations "the enemy", and the White House on Friday excluded several major outlets, The Huffington Post among them, from a press briefing. CNN, frequently criticized by Trump, has been contemplating sitting out the dinner.

The annual event, nicknamed Nerd Prom, brings together journalists, celebrities and political power brokers together for a night that typically features the President roasting the media.

Officials are asking anyone who may have taken pictures in the area or was just on the trail to contact authorities immediately. Bursten played the clip multiple times during a news conference on Wednesday.

According to the History Channel the dinner has been cancelled three times: following the death of former president William Howard Taft, in 1930, after the United States entry into the second world war in 1942, and in 1951, during the Korean war.

Trump attacks directed toward the news media have only become more intense since taking office in January.

In January, Trump skipped the Alfalfa Club dinner, another key event in the social calendar of a city to which the president is happy to pose as an outsider.
