AMD Unveils Cheap, Powerful Flagship Ryzen CPUs

AMD Announces Ryzen 7 1800X 1700X and 1700 CPUs for High End Desktops

Ryzen's lineup is set to change all that, and will "shake up the market" as they've put it themselves. The 7 series is an eight-core, sixteen thread processor, a first for AMD. General availability will begin on or around March 2nd. We'll do our best! The new processors go on sale in March and are accompanied by a selection of motherboards from major partners.

The next step up is the $399 Ryzen 7 1700X, which increases the clock speed to 3.4GHz with a 3.8GHz boost.

At launch next week, the biggest hit probably is going to be the Ryzen 7 1700 processor, it will be a proper gaming CPU that clocks in at a 3.0 GHz base clock and a nice 3.7 GHz Boost clock.

According to Tom's Hardware, the Ryzen chipsets will be made available at over 180 retail outlets worldwide.

What, not 40% IPC? Many AMD fans, such as myself, have always been waiting for more competitive offerings. Two decades ago, a good design on a smaller node could net a healthy double-digit gain, whereas in recent years 5-10% gain has become the norm. (NASDAQ:AMD) have shown a low EPS growth of -23.70% in the last 5 years and has earnings growth of 57.50% yoy.

Iraq begins battle to free western Mosul from IS

This is something we will need to test in due course! Like the 1700, the 1700X and 1800X both have eight cores and 16 threads. Specifications on the other hand match what we've previously reported, at least on the 8-core/16-thread parts. This score broke the previous Cinebench world record which was 2410 points.

AMD has achieved great price to performance ratio with its new chips and the company will focus on these chips in the coming years and the next generation of these chips is already in development. Investors will be waiting to see AMD's financial results for proof that 2017 will be "an incredible year".

Considering the price tag of AMD Ryzen 7 1800X, just $499, it is truly an incredible feat seeing AMD launch an 8-core 16 thread processor that performs even better than Intel's Core i7 6900K at half the price. What's great is that their flagship high-end 1800x will retail at $500/£490, which is almost half the price of the comparable Intel equivalent.

As expected AMD has now officially launched its new AMD Ryzen processor range this week, finally confirming the pricing for each processor, with costs ranging from $129 to $499 for the flagship Ryzen 7-1800X CPU. It is said to be a "Black edition" processor. But if you've held off on Ryzen before building your next rig, well - the wait is over.
