Julius Thomas Reportedly Could Be Traded to Dolphins for Branden Albert

Jacksonville and Miami had discussed a swap that would send Thomas to South Florida in exchange for offensive tackle Branden Albert. The same is true of the Dolphins, who could use a field-stretching tight end that works well in the red zone but may not want to pay out so much to a player that doesn't stay on the field consistently. The Dolphins reportedly planned on cutting Albert, a 2015 Pro Bowler, last week before being informed of the Jaguars' interest in the 32-year-old.

Albert is due to make $8.875 million and $9.575 million in base salaries the final two years of his contract.

The NFL will kick off the new league year on March 9 at 1 p.m. PT.

According to the report, the players would both have to restructure their contracts and pass physicals before the deal can be finalized. Thomas signed with the Jaguars in 2015, agreeing to a five year, $46 million deal with a $6 million signing bonus.

Fantasy Impact After an underwhelming two-seasons in Jacksonville Julius Thomas will take his talents to Miami. He gets a fresh start with a Miami offense in 2017 that loves to utilize their tight ends under a familiar face in Gase.

100 more whales found beached at Farewell Spit
Whale rescue organisation Project Jonah said the discovery was made when volunteers returned to the beach at first light today. The spokeswoman asked volunteers to come by 10am, ideally in wetsuits, to help with the refloat at high tide at 11am.

All the sudden, the release of Albert was put on hold as trade rumors began to swirl furiously. Thomas could be traded in a separate deal to the Dolphins, the source said. "It's the business of the game".

Thomas came to Jacksonville as free agent after putting together back-to-back Pro Bowl campaigns for the Broncos but never came close to the kind of numbers he put up in Denver.

Jaguars fans should expect further draft investment along the line as no one should expect Albert to play an entire season.

Thomas has caught 76 receptions for 736 receiving yards and nine touchdowns in two seasons with the Jaguars.

The move reunites Thomas with his former offensive coordinator, who now happens to be his head coach in Adam Gase.
