"It's the cold weather is when the flu gets spread because people are indoors, they're coughing around each other, sneezing around each other, and they're spreading those germs".

Anyone under the age of 12 and those with flu-like symptoms should not visit patients at any of their hospitals, the report said Monday.

"We are definitely beginning to encounter the peak of flu season", Jamie Swift, Mountain States corporate director of infection prevention said.

Marianne Kundich, nursing supervisor at the Lake County Health Department, said her department doesn't charge for the vaccine for adults without insurance and doesn't charge children on Medicaid, and they take insurance from some places.

Cases of the flu are still rising across the United States. Almost every state is reporting widespread influenza.

Overall past year, 128 children died from flu-related complications, according to the CDC.

Flu season is here with seasonal flu activity reported across Tennessee.

An estimated 200,000 people are hospitalized with the flu each year in the U.S. On average, it is estimated that there are more than 20,000 flu related deaths.

"The flu vaccine is the best way to protect yourself". "We ultimately want a playing deck of all these versions of the flu", he explained.

The Department of Health recommends that everyone 6 months or older receive a flu vaccination.

Statewide, there have been 148 flu deaths since the 2016-17 season began, officials said.
