Apple may be looking into setting up a manufacturing facility in India

As per the report, last month, Apple sent a letter to the Indian government citing how it plans to manufacture its high-end gadgets in India, plus seeking financial incentives from the government.

To recall, Apple CEO Tim Cook visited India back in June this year, his first since becoming the company CEO.

With Apple not manufacturing locally, iPhone prices are among the highest in India compared to the rest of the world. Apple and Indian state representatives have yet to comment on the matter.

Apple's take on manufacturing its products in India will likely aid the company to tag its products with a modest listing. The exorbitant prices in India deters many buyers who wants to shift from Android or Windows to iOS.

Iowa's population grew 2.9 percent since 2010
Census Bureau estimates show North Dakota's population reached 757,952 residents this year; that's an increase of 1,117 people. Southwestern Utah was ahead of the statewide growth rate, according to estimates released earlier this month out of the Kem C.

"Financial incentives" are being sought by Apple to press ahead with any plants, according to the report, with the idea of making locally, and therefore selling locally, clearly appealing to the tech giant. Apple doesn't have much in the way of market penetration in India, partly because it doesn't have its own stores there. That said, the iPhone only accounts for 2 percent of the total smartphone sales in India. The challenges are aplenty, but one central hurdle has always been a local sourcing regulation that requires companies to source 30% of product's value from within the country's borders in order to set up retail stores.

India is the second largest mobile phone market in the world. This paved the way for Apple to launch its stores in India. Foxconn has its manufacturing facilities in India, and it is continually manufacturing high-end products for some well-versed brands such as Xiaomi, Nokia, and InFocus.

Today, most of the Apple products are assembled in China by Foxconn Technology Group.

Apple iPhones being manufactured in India seemed like quite a far fetched concept in the recent past, but if all goes well, it won't be long until it turns into a reality. At the moment, iPhones are available in India through third-party retailers.
